Vera in Ancram 22 Color by Jim52-Photoworks

A number of times I've uploaded both a black and white and a color version of the same shot; I used to do this fairly often, but more recently, less so, as I become a bit more confident in my own eye.  I've noticed in the past that the color version always got more views - oftentimes garnering twice as many views as the black and white version.  I've always wondered, but most often I've uploaded the color version first, then the black and white version, and I figured the audience had already largely expended its interest by the time the BW version was available.  I've also noticed that BW shots in general seem to generate significantly less click-throughs than color shots, even if the black and white shot is a better photograph than the shots surrounding it in the gallery.

Last night I uploaded first a black and white, then a color version of the above shot of Vera.  In total, I felt that the black and white version was a better representation; at the same time, I felt that the color version also had some interest, and that the color shot was less compromised by mixed natural and artificial light than some of the others in the series.  I thought I'd upload that one too.

I'm a bit taken aback that the color version has already significantly outdrawn the BW version in terms of viewership.  Is it that simple?  Will this audience view a photo simply because it is color, and not view one because it's black and white?  Or, are my black and white renditions so lacking in...something...that it makes this be the case?

Edit - an additional thought:  I generally post a shot as black and white if I think that the color doesn't add anything to the image, or possibility detracts from it.  I wasn't sure (and I'm still not sure) that the color adds anything to this particular image.  I think the comments about the contrast in the BW version are right on - I think I see that more clearly when I look at the thumbnails above, as opposed to looking at the full-size images as posted.

Photographers - please feel free to comment critically on my technical execution: your input is the best way for me to learn. If you see something that I could be doing better, please point it out. I've gotten some excellent feedback from several photographers here on DA, and I'm always interested in hearing more.

Now, a couple of guidelines for folks who are not artists:

The photographs I post here are the result of interaction with professional art nude models. I do not post these photos for your gratification, and, frankly, I'm not interested in your comments regarding the models' bodies, body parts, or grooming habits. If you have a comment about the photography, please make it. If you're inclined to post a comment about the models' breasts, nipples, pubic hair, feet, etc. (as examples, this is not an all inclusive list), please don't. I'll delete it anyway, the moment I see it, and you'll be blocked, which means you will lose any "favorite" tags you've placed on any of my photos.

My art nude photography has become a very expensive hobby as I get more and more into it. DA users with empty galleries, please note: if you fave large numbers of my pics, I will ask for a points donation - this will help to keep the photos flowing. If you go overboard with favorites or comments, and your gallery is populated entirely with web-finds, or your favorites gallery is filled with what I consider porn, I will just block you. If your gallery consists of pics of your male member, immediate and automatic block.

Important: please be courteous at all times in your comments anywhere in this gallery. Anything I deem discourteous will be deleted immediately, and the poster will be blocked.

Okay, that's all out of the way.

nicely done, you have an eye for what the model is suppose to be relaying to the public. It makes you think, what are they thinking of at the time. I like it!+fav
